Fair Tide Helps Homeless Get Back On Track

“Janice” was always struggling to stay in one place—things were always going wrong…then she found Fair Tide. With Fair Tide’s help she’s now in a “good” place: she’s been in the same housing for over a year now and has the support services she needs. Guess what? Now she’s got her kids with her too! Can she keep this up? You bet… She’s now employed and attending college. Thanks Fair Tide! In an overwhelming time, ESC was quite literally life-saving for Fair Tide.

As Fair Tide Board Chair Brad Hirst writes:
“We had a three year plan which needed revisiting—the landscape of providing transitional housing to people struggling with homelessness was changing. Reduced revenues at our thrift store and unexpected delay in our tenants’ rental assistance left us wondering how much longer we could keep our doors open By the time we met with ESC’s Susan Fitzgerald Reichert, we were in crisis mode.  ESC helped us step back, take a deep breath, look at our situation with fresh eyes and take stock of our many assets. Without letting us underestimate our challenges, ESC instilled in us the confidence that we could make our way through this crisis…as long as we were willing to put in the effort and change the way we do things. We were able to raise $25,000 to right the ship. We are in a much better position to do what needs to be done, and are indebted to ESC for their invaluable assistance.”

Winnipesaukee Playhouse LogoClient Spotlight:  Winnipesaukee Playhouse

The Little Theater That Does

Located in a seasonal mall in the Weirs Beach section of Laconia, the Winnipesaukee Playhouse or “Winni” is a brother and sister’s dream come true to bring quality arts and art education to the Lakes Region. Since 2004, the 84-seat theatre provided professional productions but it wasn’t enough. There are only so many productions one can offer with no ‘real’ backstage area, dressing rooms or production facilities. And with limited seating, only so many visitors could enjoy the productions the sparks of another dream began.

Then the perfect facility appeared with 300+ potential seats, plenty of production space, and very importantly, plenty of room for the arts education programs crucial to the Playhouse’s community outreach. That’s when the Winni reached out to ESC for help. ESC helped guide the Playhouse’s growth from a successful small but ambitious theater to a growing regional presence. First, Bill Gould helped create the strategic business plan. Second, Richard van Bergen provided advice on board development to attract individuals with diverse skills critical to the Playhouse’s transition. Finally, Maggie Ford led a fundraising capacity assessment geared to an aggressive annual fund and in preparation of a capital campaign to fund the new facility.

With ESC’s help, the Winnipesaukee Playhouse today is truly in transition. Professional productions are held in the intimate theater in the Weirs Beach location while the new Meredith location is used for educational programs, camps and rehearsals. The Playhouse is well into a capital campaign to transform a corporate office and outlet complex into a state-of-the-art theatre campus.
